Mike Ragsdale, Vice-Chairman

Mayor Mike Ragsdale is a member of the Board of Directors for Educational Funding of the South, Inc. ("Edsouth") and serves as Vice-Chairman. Mayor Ragsdale was first elected to serve as Knox County Mayor in 2002 and currently holds that position. While earning his Doctorate, Mr. Ragsdale became Director of Admissions and Records for what is now Pellissippi State Community College. He was promoted to Dean of Administrative Affairs in 1981 and served as liaison with the State Board of Regents. In 1987, Mr. Ragsdale accepted a position with Barber & McMurry where he served as a partner and Vice-President of the firm for 16 years. Prior to his election as mayor, Mr. Ragsdale was elected to serve as Knox County Commissioner in the 5th Commission District in 1990. Mayor Ragsdale earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Tennessee where he received the Torchbearer Award (the highest award the University gives its students).  He obtained a Master's Degree from Auburn University and returned to UT to complete his Doctorate. Mr. Ragsdale has been involved in the following organizations: American Red Cross, Junior Achievement, East Tennessee Discovery Center and the Optimist Club of Knoxville. He is a graduate of Leadership Knoxville, has served on the Board of Directors for the Greater Knoxville Sports Corporation, Knox Area Chamber Partnership and was Chairman of the Knox County Tourist Commission. He is one of the two Tennesseans that serve on the Board of the American County Executives/Mayors Association. He was elected as President of the Tennessee Association of Mayors and earned The Vision Award from Technology 2020.
