John E. Mays is a member of the Board of Directors for Educational Funding of the South, Inc. ("Edsouth") and serves as Corporate Secretary for Edsouth.  Mr. Mays' career includes over 46 years of experience in the field of Education.  He spent 6 years as an educator and over 8 years as a Consultant.  While working as a Consultant, Mr. Mays was employed in over 25 different higher education institutions in the areas of: Student Aid, Finance and Fund Management.  He has spent over 32 years in the field of higher education for the following: Student Services, Director of Student Financial Aid and Institutional Funds (both at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and East Tennessee State University).  Mr. Mays also served in the military for 30 years (active and reserve duty), retiring as a full Colonel in 1989.  He obtained his undergraduate degree from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology.  He earned his Master of Science Degree in Higher Education and Administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee.  Mr. Mays also serves on the Board of Directors for Southeast Culinary and Hospitality College in Bristol, Virginia and the Higher Education Assistance Foundation in St. Paul, Minnesota.
